Benin art belong to a living culture
and has a deep historical and social value, which goes far beyond
aesthetic and monetary value. Benin art treasures were treated as little
more than curios during the 1900's when they were first brought to
Europe, but as time went by the wonderful quality of the ivory carving
and bronze casting became highly appreciated as prices soared in art
auction rooms all over the world.
