The Tyn or Juju hat is worn by royalty, chiefs or prominent members of a society during royal affairs weddings or funerals. The hats are made of finely cut bamboo sticks that are cut into 30 groups each group about 1/2 to3/4 inches larger. The ends of these sticks are folded and on the opposite end feathers are tied to the tips. The folded ends of the first 6 to 8 sticks are hand sewn on a piece of folded fabric about 1 inch wide. The rest of the bamboo sticks are tightly weaved with a string into a circular base starting with the smallest sticks first. Once completed the hat can be opened and displayed as a wall hanging, and when not in use can be neatly folded into a cylindrical shape.
